The Lord shall lift up a standard

So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him. Isaiah 59:19

The flood gate of evil has been swung wide open a few days ago when the leader of this nation openly embraced the sin of sodomy.  The leader of this nation, while a self proclaimed Christian, openly defied the Laws of God.  As one pastor rightly put, he had “shaken his fists at God.”

The sin of sodomy and homosexuality is an abomination in the eyes of God.  It is clear from both the Old Testament and New Testament that it is evil and condemned by God.  Leviticus Chapter 18:22-30, 20:13, Romans 1:18-27 all clearly spelled out God’s displeasure in men committing such horrendous and rebellious act.  There’s a spirit of rebellion against God behind it.  It is against their very own sex and nature that God the Creator had given them.  The spirit behind this sin is horrific, evil, and destructive beyond imagination.  It exhibits such hatred and anger against the God and humanity which God created.  It oppresses and binds the people who live in such “life style”, and eventually destroys them.  And who can help them and deliver them from such evil?  Who will stand up and tell them that there is hope and deliverance and freedom from such bondage and slavery?

Now, the leader of this nation, a self proclaimed Christian, openly embraces this evil.  The leader, has open the door wide for all sorts of evil.  Some may argue that he’s only one man and his opinion doesn’t really count.  However we don’t agree with our leader, he is the leader of this nation.  And as a leader, his actions has far reaching consequences than we can see.  It has implications both in the physical and spiritual realm.  His declaration is definitely a turning point for this country.

For the past few days, I have observed the exchange of ideas and comments from various places.  Whenever someone stood up for truth and declared the truth of God, there are people attacking with lies, distortions, half-truth, and hate.  It is very obvious that they are deceived and cannot stand the light.  That is exactly why we need to stand up for truth, not only in words, but in deeds and in our lives.  When the enemy comes like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will raise up a standard against it.  This is the time for the church to wake up.  We are not fighting against flesh and blood, but the principalities and powers behind them.  It’s time for us to fight!  It is time for us to pray, to fast, and to root ourselves in the Lord.  Without the Holy Spirit to guide us, we cannot make sense of the Word of God, or else we would just be powerless against a very real enemy.

We need to declare the truth, so that people in such sin can have hope.  When they have come to the end of themselves, like we all do, they will know who and where to turn to.  When the Holy Spirit convicts of their conscience of their sin, and they cried out, “Is there hope for me?”,  somebody can be there and answer, “Yes, there is hope for you!  Just as there was hope for me!”  Let’s be the voices in the wilderness and cried out, “Prepare ye the way of the Lord!”  “Repent, for the kingdom of God is near!”  There is hope!  There is life!  In Christ Jesus is our hope and life.  For all of us have sinned, all have gone astrayed, and all have fallen short of the glory of God.  And we all need Jesus!  That is why Jesus came, died on the cross and raised from the dead.  So that He can take away the sin of the world and give us His own life, a life that is without sin.

Let us cried out to God, let us pray, let us weep, let us be broken-hearted in front of the Lord!  Let us stand and let us fight, for such a time we are called.  Rebuild the wall, rebuild the gate!  Let’s build the ark of his presence, so that in the last days, it can be a refuge for many.  Even so, come Lord Jesus, come!

When I Can Read My Title Clear

“When I can read my title clear to mansions in the skies,
I bid farewell to every fear, and wipe my weeping eyes.
And wipe my weeping eyes, and wipe my weeping eyes
I bid farewell to every fear, and wipe my weeping eyes.

Should earth against my soul engage, and hellish darts be hurled,
Then I can smile at Satan’s rage, and face a frowning world.
And face a frowning world, and face a frowning world,
Then I can smile at Satan’s rage, and face a frowning world.

Let cares, like a wild deluge come, and storms of sorrow fall!
May I but safely reach my home, my God, my heav’n, my All.
My God, my heaven, my All, my God, my heave’, my All,
May I but safely reach my home, my God, my heaven, my All.

There shall I bathe my weary soul in seas of heav’nly rest,
And not a wave of trouble roll, across my peaceful breast.
Across my peaceful breast, across my peaceful breast,
And not a wave of trouble roll, across my peaceful breast.”

These wonderful words from one of the most beloved hymn writer of all time, Issac Watts, still speak long after he has gone on to glory.  Three hundred years had gone by and his faith still speaks!  When such faith comes in, when we can lay hold of the assurances and promises of God, when faith grabs hold of horn of the alter, there shall be no more room for fear.  Perfect love casts out all fear!  And what other love is more perfect than the perfect love of Christ that was demonstrated to all on the cross?

“Should earth against my souls engage and hellish darts be hurled”

It should be no surprise that true followers of Christ will be persecuted.  They will be frowned upon.  We are a peculiar people.  We are not of this world, and the world loves not those who do not belong to this world.  And if the world hates our Master, how will the world not hate His disciples and followers?  Yet, in trials, tribulations and persecutions, what is the response of faith?  “Then I can smile at Satan’s rage, and face a frowning world.”  Yes, we can smile when people hate us because we are following Christ.  Yes, we can be glad when they call us crazy because we’ve decided to follow God.  Yes, we can rejoice when they ridicule us when we’ve committed ourselves to serve God and God alone.  Yes, rejoice!  When people say all manners of evil of you because of Christ, then we should rejoice, for they have also treated His prophets and servants.  And we also know Who is the winner at the end.  We can truthfully say that the victory belongs to us!  “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.”

Let cares and sorrow come.  Let the sea billows roll.  Let the wind howl and the waves beat, but we are going to arrive home safe and sound!  What an assurance, what a confidence the author had in God.  Perhaps it is because that he had nothing other than God and that God is his all in all, that he can have such complete and assuring trust.  Through faith, he has already see the heavenly home that he was heading to.  He saw the city that was promised by faith.  Just as those saints walked before him, he has gone on without receiving the promise, and they are waiting for us to complete our race.  So let us lay aside the weights that binds, and run the race before us.   Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith!

“Why do the Heathens Rage?”

“Why do the heathens rage and people imagine a vain thing?  The kings of the earth set themselves and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.”

News are now coming in from every corner of the earth of the heathen’s rage against God, Christ and his people.  Persecutions every where, from Europe, to Asia, to Africa and in the Americas.  True followers of Christ are being persecuted in every possible way.  You can feel this terrible rage and hatery coming from the evil and darkness directed towards God and his anointed.  Amidst all that hate and evil, the poet here asked a simple yet profound question, “why?”  Why do they rage against God like this?  Why do they hate God like this?  Why do they imagine such a vain thing?  Why do they think they could come against God, the Almighty, the Creator of the Universe, with their anger, rage and hate?  Moreover, how dare them come with such anger, rage and hate!  How foolish are they to conspire against the LORD!  Insolent fools!  Oh, that they think they can come against their Maker, with all their might, all the might of their hands.  How dare them to raise up their hate against God and his anointed!  Oh, only if they can see the vanity in their design, the hollowness of their mind’s contrition.  The people believe in vain things.  They believe in lies, false doctrines, human concepts.  They believe in imaginations!  And those that observe in lying vanities forsakes the mercy of the Lord.

And what is it that they imagine?  What is that they dreamed to accomplish?  It is to overthrow the laws and the precepts of the Lord.  The kings, the rulers, they conspire together to cast away all the guidelines and limitations that the Lord set down for the well being of humans, namely the Ten Commandments and its principles.  They desired to be totally free from God.  It is the same lie that was spouted first in the garden, that ye shall be like gods!  Indeed, before our very eyes, the rulers of the world is conspiring against the Lord and everything that He stands for.  Yet, God still is on the throne, and His response is laughter.  He laughs at his enemies.  He shall have them at derision.  He will confound their plans.  And when Christ returns, he shall break them with a rod of iron.  He shall dash them into pieces, like a potter’s vessel.  Into pieces!  All the might of their kingdoms, their armies, their wealth and strength will be dashed into pieces!  The kingdoms of this world, shall be come, the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ!  How glorious!  How wonderful!  How marvelous it will be when that day comes!  And He shall reign forever and ever.  Hallelujah!  Even so come, Lord Jesus!
